HENDERSON, Tenn. - Roberto Ferguson tossed a three-hitter and Kyle Dearing drove in the game-winning run in the seventh inning as the Freed-Hardeman Lions split a double-header with Indiana Tech, winning game one 2-1 before dropping the second game 5-4.
Ferguson (1-0) won a pitchers' duel in the first game, allowing three hits and one walk while striking out eight over seven innings. Dearing's no-out single drove in Tyler Wilson to finish off the game after the Lions used baserunning and bunting to move Wilson into scoring position.
Wilson was hit by a pitch leading off the seventh, then stole second and advanced to third on Kirkland Wheeler's bunt.
The second game didn't end as quite as well as ITT got three runs in the fourth inning to take a lead it would not relinquish.
After Indiana Tech added another run in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead, the Lions got two runs back on Joe Mike's two-run blast (1).
Drew Suttles pitched out of a jam in the top of the seventh, leaving the bases loaded and giving FHU (7-5) a chance to tie or win in the bottom of the frame. However, ITT's Kyle Nolen retired the side to keep that from happening.
Daniel Wallace (0-2) took the loss in game two, allowing five runs on five hits.
The series concludes with a double-header tomorrow beginning at noon.
