HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion golf team added another player to its 2012-13 recruiting class with the recent signing of Zack Morton of Henderson, Tenn.
Morton prepped at Chester Co. HS where he was medalist at four of eight matches as a senior. He also finished second at the district tournament with a score of 71. On the TGA Junior Tour, he is a two-time winner and has seven top three finishes to his credit. He also has three top 10 finishes on the USJGT circuit and finished in seventh place at the Junior Masters in Villa Rica, Ga., in April.
Last summer, Morton finished seventh at the Jackson qualifying site for the TGA SunTrust State Open, earning a spot in the field that included the top amateurs and club professionals from Tennessee.
Morton was also involved in several extracurricular activities including BETA club, Future Business Leaders of American, and the student council where he served as president his senior year. He also ranked in the top 10 percent of his graduating class.
"One of the exciting things about Zack is that he hasn't begun to reach his potential yet," said FHU head coach John Armstrong. "Zack can go out and shoot a low score any time he tees it up but has lacked consistency during his junior career. Once he begins to develop that consistency, he has a chance to contend on a regular basis at the collegiate level. Zack does not shy away from any level of competition, and that has prepared him to make the transition to college golf."
He joins Cody Harrington (Cookeville, Tenn.) in FHU's signing class.
Zack is the son of Eddie and Beverly Morton of Henderson.
