HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball program recently added another player to its 2013 recruiting class with the recent signing of Lauren Benson from Murray, Ky.
Benson, an infielder, prepped at Calloway Co. HS where she hit .358 with 21 RBI and 14 extra-base hits as a senior. As a junior, she batted .403 with 33 RBI and hit .524 with runners in scoring position. During the state tournament that year, she went 13-for-23 (.565) at the plate with two home runs and seven RBI earning all-tournament honors.
Benson hit .348 as a sophomore and .300 as a freshman and helped lead her team to two district championships and a region championship.
She also played travel ball in the summer and fall with the Calloway County Chaos, MC Magic and Kentucky Magic '94.
"Lauren will add help in our infield and batting lineup," said FHU head coach Todd Humphry. "She comes from a winning program at Calloway County and will bring competitive experience to our team." Humphry expects her to compete at multiple positions in the Lady Lion infield next season.
Lauren is the daughter of Scott Benson and Danna Benson.
She joins Allie Carpenter (Decaturville, Tenn./Trinity Christian Academy), Jessica Weeks (Henderson, Tenn./Chester Co. HS), and Allie Moss (Covington, Tenn./Covington HS) in the Lady Lions' signing class.
