PINEVILLE, La. - Michael Clayton hit three homeruns and drove in seven runs to lead the Freed-Hardeman Lions (2-0) past Texas College, 17-11, in a slugfest on Saturday morning.

Clayton's trifecta came just three days after Willy Hernandez hit three homeruns in FHU's season opener in Memphis, Tenn.  Clayton hit a three-run shot in the third inning and followed with a pair of two-run blasts in the fourth and sixth innings.

The Lions scored four runs in each of the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to outlast the Steers (2-8).

Hernandez followed his big opening day performance with another 3-for-4 day at the plate that included a pair of RBI singles.  Angel Nicolas and Derek Bush also had three hits for the Lions.

Alan Barnett (1-0) picked up the win in three innings of relief, striking out four while allowing seven hits and five runs.

It was the only game of four scheduled that FHU was able to play due to rain.  The Lions were in the top of the third inning of their game with Louisiana College when it was suspended.
