Scott and McKinney lead FHU cross country teams at Choctaw Open

CLINTON, Miss. - All in all, the Freed-Hardeman cross country teams had an impressive outing at the Choctaw Open on Saturday as Sloan Scott finished tenth overall in a field of 132 runners while Blaine McKinney set an FHU men's 8K record time of 28:32.

The Lady Lions began the day at 8:30 AM on Saturday with the women's 5K race. The race consisted of 17 teams with a total of 132 runners in the field.

Vicky Winslow, from the University of Alabama at Huntsville, took home top honors finishing in first place with a time of 17:57. Clarissa Smith (SE Louisiana), Holly Ann Goble (Auburn-Montgomery), Amie Wimberly (Mobile) and Chloe Whitworth (Alabama-Huntsville) rounded out the top five.

Sloan Scott led the FHU women's team, finishing in 10th overall, tying her personal record time of 19:46. Libby Elliott was the second runner to cross the finish line for the Lady Lions in 84th place with a time of 22:28. Kierra Male rounded out the top three for the Lady Lions finishing 90th overall with a time of 23:03.

The Lady Lions finished 13th in the field of 17 teams. A complete list of results for the Lady Lions are listed below:

The men's cross country 8K race at the Choctaw Open began at 9:15 AM following the women's race. The race consisted of 17 teams with a total of 131 runners in the field.

Myles Scarano, from the University of Alabama Huntsville, took home top honors finishing in first place with a time of 25:19. A variety of schools were represented in the top five including Brydon Scott-Groves (Alabama-Huntsville), Hassan Chepkwony (Grambling), and Will Young (Mississippi College).

The top three runners for the Lions on Saturday were all freshmen. Blaine McKinney led the FHU men's team setting an 8K school record with a time of 28:32 and finished 55th overall. Adam Dunlap finished close behind in 67th with a time of 29:16 followed by Dillon Tucker, who finished in 78th place with a time of 29:52.

The Lions finished 14th in the field of 17 teams. A complete list of results for the Lions are listed below:

The Lady Lion and Lion cross country teams will be back in action on Saturday, October 24 for the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Fall Classic in St. Louis, Mo.
