Freed-Hardeman to host AMC Cross Country Championship

HENDERSON, Tenn. - Hundreds of runners will be flocking to the campus of Freed-Hardeman University come Friday morning as the the Lions will host the American Midwest Conference cross country championships for the first time in school history. The men's 8K race is scheduled to begin at 10:00 AM followed by the women's 5K race at 11:00 AM.

Season Stats: Selected as AMC Runner of the Week on three separate occasions this season

Notable Finishes: 1st overall at the Principia Cross Country Open among 33 runners in the field; 10th overall among 180 runners in the field on two other occasions this season; considered to be one of the top freshman runners in the nation

Hannibal-LaGrange University

Leader: Andrew Daw

Season Stats: Selected as AMC Runner of the Week on two separate occasions this season

Notable Finishes: 1st place team finish at the Great River Home Open; Daw finished first overall in the field and set a course record

Lindenwood University-Belleville

Leaders: Francisco Zaragoza and Will McLemore

Season Stats: Both Zaragoza and McLemore have taken home Runner of the Week honors this season

Notable Finishes: Both runners have set school records at Lindenwood University-Belleville and do not plan on letting up anytime soon

Notable Finishes: Finished second out of 296 runners in the field at the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge

Season Stats: Has taken home two Runner of the Week awards this season

Notable Finishes: First place overall finish at the University of the Ozarks Cross Country Invitational 

FHU RUNNERS TO WATCH

Sloan Scott

2015 has been a record-breaking season for Sloan Scott as she has not only been the top runner at FHU, but she has also put up some solid finishes among other runners in the AMC. Earlier this season, Scott finished 10th overall in a field of 132 runners at the Mississippi College Choctaw Open, setting a personal record in the process with a 19:46 5K finish. Scott was one of the first runners from the NAIA to cross the finish line in the race. She followed up her impressive performance in Mississippi just one week later at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Fall Classic where she finished 11th overall in a field of 101 runners, setting a personal record with a 19:42 finish.

Blaine McKinney

In his first season with the Lion cross country team, Blaine McKinney has already made history by setting the 8K school record twice this season. McKinney set the school record at the Mississippi College Choctaw earlier in the season for his time of 28:32. He followed up his finish in Mississippi one week later at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Fall Classic, where he broke the school record once more by a staggering 51 seconds in his 27:41 finish. McKinney will look to continue the momentum on Friday as he participates in the AMC Championship for the first time.


RACE DETAILS

The Freed-Hardeman cross country course circles the baseball and soccer fields and a majority of the course runs parallel with the 45 by-pass in Henderson.

The Runner of the Year award will be provided to the top overall finisher in each race while First-Team All-Conference awards will be awarded to the top 10 finishers in each race. The top finishing team will automatically qualify for the NAIA National Championship meet set for Saturday, November 21, in Charlotte, N.C. Also, the top four finishers that are not from the Championship Team will qualify for the NAIA National Championship.
