HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion cross country team opened its 2016 recruiting class with the recent signing of Philip Brock of McMinnville, Tenn.

Brock prepped at F.C. Boyd Christian School in McMinnville, Tenn. where he earned "Runner of the Year" honors in the Middle Tennessee Athletic Conference (MTAC) for the 2012, 2014, and 2015 seasons while also finishing first overall in the MTAC championship race each of those seasons.

In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Brock has also excelled in the classroom as he was president of the National Honor society during his time at F.C. Boyd Christian.

"Philip has a lot of upside," said Derrick Spradlin, head coach for the Lion cross country team. "He is relatively new to running, yet he has had a lot of success in high school over the past year. He skipped a grade in high school, so he will enter college a year younger than most freshmen. There is just a lot of potential there, and with his work ethic, I think he could be very successful at the college level."

Brock is the son of Jamie and Melissa Brock. He is the first runner to join the 2016 recruiting class for the Lion cross country team.
