HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion cross country team opened their 2016-17 recruiting class with the recent signing of Brooke Simpson of Bowling Green, Ky.

Simpson prepped at South Warren High School in Bowling Green, Ky., where she was a part of teams that advanced the Kentucky State meet all four years she participated. In addition, Simpson was also the team's Regional runner-up with a personal 5K record time of a 21:08.

In addition to her ability as a runner, Simpson has also excelled in the classroom as she has maintained a 3.8 GPA while being involved not only in cross country, but also National Honors Society and Beta Club.

Derrick Spradlin, head coach for the Lady Lion cross country program, said that Simpson brings a lot of experience to the team and should contribute right away.

"Brooke has been running since middle school, which gives her a lot of experience," Spradlin said. "She has had her sights set on Freed-Hardeman for a long time now. She pushes herself and is a hard worker who loves running and being part of a team. She has a great attitude and brings a lot of dedication. We are excited to have her join our team."

Simpson is the daughter of Russell and Dana Simpson of Bowling Green, Ky. She is the first runner to join the 2016 recruiting class for the Lady Lion cross country team.
