HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion cross country team added another runner to its 2016 recruiting class with the recent signing of Sam Elliott of Burns, Tenn.

Elliott prepped at Dickson County High School, where he was an All-Region runner during his senior season with the Cougars. He becomes the second runner from his family to join the FHU Cross Country team, as his sister Libby will be a junior on the Lady Lion Cross Country roster during the upcoming season.

In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Elliott has also excelled in the classroom, earning a 3.56 GPA during his time at Dickson County High School.

In a recent interview with the Dickson Herald, Derrick Spradlin, head coach for the Lion cross country team, stated his excitement to have Sam join the Lions cross country roster for the upcoming season.

"I’m happy to have Sam join our team,” Spradlin said. “He has enthusiasm and a great work ethic. He has done well in high school, and I’m eager to see how he continues to improve throughout his college career. His sister Libby will be a junior on our team, so I know that they’re excited to be together on the FHU team.” (Quote courtesy of Chris Gadd, Dickson Herald)
