ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Fresh off her recent Player of the Week nod last week from the American Midwest Conference, Caitlyn Carter continued her strong play to earn the honor for a second straight week. Ashten Welch from Lyon College took home the AMC Pitcher of the Week award.

The Lady Lions have been witnessing a tremendous season out of Caitlyn Carter. FHU's sophomore infielder put together a spectacular weekend by hitting 13-for-17 in four games with two doubles, two triples and a home run. In the second game of the double header against Harris-Stowe State (Mo.), Carter recorded a cycle alongside five RBIs and 5 runs scored.

Three multi-hit games, 13 runs scored and 10 RBIs highlighted the weekend for the Columbia, Tenn., native. Carter is now hitting .510 on the season and ranks sixth in the NAIA for batting average. She also leads the AMC in hits (75) as she has ten more than the second place Molly Carter (65).

Carter's game is at an all-time high, but will it be enough to launch the fourth-seeded Lady Lions into the AMC Championship? Time will tell, but for now, Carter can boast her second consecutive AMC Softball Player of the Week award this season.

Meanwhile, Lyon College's own Ashten Welch took the ball for the final time this past week against Crowley's Ridge (Ark.) and tossed a complete game shutout after allowing the Pioneers only two hits with nine strikeouts.

The Scots took the game home on a 9-0 final score and Welch's senior season came to a close with a masterful performance. She ends her season with a record of 15-9 with a 2.58 ERA. In her two years as a Scot, Welch was 27-18 with a career ERA of 3.00.

The California native finishes her final season in the top 50 in the NAIA with her 15 wins. This is now Welch's second AMC Softball Pitcher of the Week award for 2016.
