HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team needed a win Sunday to advance to the American Midwest Conference Final Four. And a win is what they got as they defeated Central Baptist College 6-4 in a tie-breaking match-up with the Mustangs.

FHU also needed a solid outing out of Sophomore Mallory Spurlock (13-10) and she delivered, as she picked up the win after working five full innings and allowing just four hits while striking out six.

Makenzie Prince picked up the save, as she finished out the game for the Lady Lions, working two innings and allowing just one hit while striking out four.

Caitlyn Carter continued her stellar season at the plate, as she went 3-for 4 on the day to lead the Lady Lions with her bat. Allie Carpenter also impressed at the plate as she went 1-for-2 on the day with a double and three RBI's to account for three of FHU's six runs in the game.

FHU (27-18) set the tone early with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Morgan Warren would cross the plate first for the Lady Lions after reaching on a single to left field and scoring off a single to right field from Kristen Hunsicker. The Lady Lions would add three more runs in the inning, as Allie Carpenter doubled to deep center field to score Hunsicker, Katie Sholl and Caitlyn Carter to give FHU a comfortable 4-0 lead.

However, Central Baptist (27-30) would have something to say about the comfortable lead, as they put together a three-run fifth inning to close the gap to one run at the 4-3 mark. The Mustangs pounded out three hits in the inning and relied on three errors by the Lady Lions to cut the deficit.

The Lady Lions would add two insurance runs in the sixth inning as they capitalized on three errors made by the Mustangs to increase their lead at the 6-3 mark. Savannah Decker and Morgan would both cross the plate for FHU in the inning following a pair of wild throws by Mustang catcher Raquel Westerman.

Central Baptist would add one run in the top of the seventh inning as Joella Bayles hit a homerun over the right field fence, but it would not be enough as Makenzie Prince shut the Mustangs down to finish the game with a 6-4 victory.

With the win, the Lady Lions move to 27-18 on the season while the Mustangs ended their season with a record of 27-30.
