HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team opened its 2016 recruiting class with the recent signing of Abbi Gooch of Florence, Ala.

Gooch, a pitcher and outfielder, prepped at Mars Hill Bible School in Florence, Ala., where she compiled 362 strikeouts while allowing just 19 earned runs during her senior season with the Panthers.

Gooch made her presence known during her final season at Mars Hill, throwing 14 complete games, including two perfect appearances throughout her final season. She finished her senior season with a 25-8 record while allowing just 74 hits and maintaining a 0.74 earned run average.

In addition to her ability on the field, Gooch also demonstrated success in the classroom, earning a 3.21 cumulative GPA throughout her time at Mars Hill Bible School.

Todd Humphry, head coach for the Lady Lion softball program, said Gooch will add versatility to the Lady Lion roster, as she has the ability to contribute in a variety of ways on the field.

"Abbi is a very versatile player that will help us in multiple ways," Humphry said. "She will have the opportunity to pitch and also play outfield for us in the Spring, which we are very excited about. She is a very athletic player and a hard worker and is a great addition to the Lady Lion roster for the upcoming season."
Gooch is the first player signed to the Lady Lion softball roster for the upcoming season. She will join fellow Mars Hill standout Mallory Spurlock as the second pitcher from the school on the roster for the upcoming season.
