Cumberland hands FHU straight sets loss at LWC Classic

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team completed the weekend at the Lindsey Wilson College Classic Saturday with a straight sets loss to fellow in-state opponent Cumberland (Tenn.) University. (26-24, 25-17, 25-12)

The Lady Lions held their own in the first set as they went back and forth with the Phoenix, but in the end Cumberland would come out on top with a 26-24 advantage. The Lady Lions struggled to regroup following the first set loss as they mustered just 17 points in the second set and 12 in the final set to finish the tournament 1-3.

Daymari Brito continued to lead the Lady Lions (1-3) with 13 kills. Ashton Webb followed close behind on the attack with eight kills. 

Freshman setter Lindsey Gordon continued her solid play, as she finished the contest with 21 assists while libero Bailey Brown countered Cumberland's attack with 14 digs. The Lady Lions hit just .090 percent in the match and committed 23 attack errors in the loss.

With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 1-3 on the season.
