HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman soccer teams concluded the Lions Cup Invitational Saturday, as the Lady Lions battled to a 2-2 draw while the Lions fell 3-1 to Dalton State College.

On the women's side, both teams would stay quiet in the first half, as FHU (0-3-1) attempted just four shots compared to Dalton State (2-1-1), who attempted just two shots. The Lady Lions had success keeping the ball on their side of the field for a majority of the half despite the quick offense of the Roadrunners.

Despite there being little to talk about in the first half, both teams more than made up for it in the second frame, as Dalton State attempted nine shots while FHU attempted five. For the match, FHU peppered the goal with 11 shots on goal compared to Dalton State, who attempted just four shots on goal in the match.

Juliana Gomez would get things going for the Roadrunners with a goal in the 62nd minute followed by another goal by Asmara Holmes in the 76th minute to put Dalton State up 2-0 midway through the second half.

However, the Lady Lions would not go down without a fight, as they would score two quick goals of their own to even things up at two apiece and force overtime.

Avis Van Kampen would find the back of the net first for the Lady Lions in the 82nd minute, off an assist by Nina Carolissen to pull FHU within one late in the match.

Carolissen and Van Kampen would also contribute on the second goal of the match for the Lady Lions moments later in the 86th minute, as Carolissen found the back of the net off an assist by Van Kampen to force overtime.

Despite an action packed second half for FHU and Dalton State, both teams would fail to score in both overtime periods, as the match would end in a 2-2 draw.

With the draw, the Lady Lions move to 0-3-1 on the season.

On the men's side, the Lions (0-3) dropped their third straight game of the season with a 3-1 loss, as three goals by Dalton State (2-0) would be too much to overcome.

Despite the loss, the Lions executed well on the offensive end, as Freshman Lucas Las Casas was able to find the back of the net in the 76th minute off an assist by Andrij Sawzcuk to pull the Lions within two. However, the goal would be too little too late, as the Lions fell 3-1 to the Roadrunners to conclude the Lions Cup Invitational.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-3 on the season.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions and Lions will be back in action Tuesday, September 13 as they travel to Belleville, Illinois for a match-up with Lindenwood University-Belleville. The Lions will kick things off at 5:00 PM followed by the women's match at 7:15 PM.
