Lady Lions fall in straight sets to Missouri Baptist

HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team suffered their fifth loss of the season Friday at the hands of No. 13 Missouri Baptist University, as the Spartans defeated the Lady Lions in straight sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-19).

The loss for the Lady Lions (2-5, 0-1 AMC) marks their fifth straight-sets loss in the seven games played this season. With the win, Missouri Baptist (14-3, 2-0 AMC) extended their conference-winning streak to two games, as they have yet to experience a loss in AMC play.

Despite the loss, the Lady Lions held their own in each of the three sets, as several players contributed solid minutes including Daymari Brito, who led FHU in kills with 12. Beth Maples followed close behind with seven kills while Lindsey Gordon dished out an impressive 26 assists in the loss. Libero Bailey Brown countered MBU's attack with 11 digs.

Marija Tosic led MBU on the attack with nine kills while Megan Huffman dished out all 33 assists for the Spartans in the win. Huffman also defended FHU's attack well with 10 digs.

The Spartans accumulated 39 kills and hit .242 in the match compared to the Lady Lions who hit just .058 in the match with 30 kills.

With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 2-5 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions continue their weekend home stand Saturday, as they face Harris Stowe State (Mo.) University for a 1:00 PM match-up. Saturday's match-up will be held at Chester County High School in Henderson, Tenn. due to other activities taking place this weekend at the Brewer Sports Center.
