Lady Lions fall to No. 7 Park in straight sets

HENDERSON, Tenn. - Park University proved why they're  the No. 7 team in the nation Saturday, as the Lady Lion volleyball team suffered their seventh loss of the season at the hands of the Pirates in straight sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-10).

The loss for the Lady Lions (3-7, 1-3 AMC) marks their second straight loss in the last three games. With the win, Park University (17-1, 3-0 AMC) extends their conference-winning streak to three games, as they have yet to experience a loss in American Midwest Conference play.

Despite the loss, the Lady Lions held their own in each of the three sets, as several players contributed solid minutes including Daymari Brito, who led FHU in kills with five while contributing 10 defensive digs in the match-up. Beth Maples followed close behind with four kills while Lindsey Gordon dished out 14 assists in the loss.

Park Outside Hitter Wendy Romero gave FHU fits all day, as she led the Pirates on the attack with 18 kills while Danna Gomes dished out 28 of the 34 assists in the win. Gomes also countered FHU's attack well with 13 digs.

The Pirates compiled 42 kills and hit .278 in the match compared to the Lady Lions who hit just .021 in the match with 18 kills.

With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 3-7 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions are back in action Tuesday, September 27, as they make the short trip to Jackson, Tenn. to take on Division 2 Lane College for a 5:30 PM match-up against the Dragons.
