ST. LOUIS, Mo – The American Midwest Conference has announced Monday its men’s soccer weekly award winners for the week ending September 25, 2016. Alex Meany of Freed-Hardeman University was named the AMC’s Offensive Player of the Week, while Christian Espitia of Lindenwood University Belleville was honored as the Defensive Player of the Week.

Meany, a 5-10 senior defender from Dublin, Ireland, factored in four of the five goals scored by the Freed-Hardeman Lions against Central Baptist. He scored his first goal on a penalty kick, and he added another on a well-placed shot from outside the penalty area. For the season, Meany has converted two goals for the Lions and dished out three assists.

Espitia, a 6-0 senior goalkeeper from Bogota, Colombia, started his week by making six saves against the William Woods University Owls in a double-overtime victory. He yielded only one goal in the match as the Lynx took the 2-1 win to set up a battle of AMC unbeatens in the AMC’s men’s soccer Game of the Week on Saturday at Lyon College. In the Game of the Week, Espitia allowed one goal, but he emerged victorious as the Lynx downed the Scots by a final count of 2-1. On the season, Espitia has made 22 saves, owns a .786 Save Percentage, and has a goals against average of 0.83.

The Player of the Week nod for Meany marks the first of his career as a Lion.
