ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion soccer team came up short Monday with a 1-0 loss to Harris Stowe State University, despite peppering five shots on goal in the match and putting up a solid defensive stand.

The Lady Lions (2-5-3, 2-2-2 AMC) attempted eight shots and five shots on goal in the match compared to Harris Stowe (6-6, 3-3 AMC) who attempted 10 shots and six shots on goal in the match.

Megan Coutts scored the lone goal in the match for HSSU, as she found the back of the net in the 24th minute off an assist by Megan Wilson and Dominique Tedesco. However, the one goal for the Hornets would be all they needed to secure the victory and hand the Lady Lions their second conference loss of the season.

The Lady Lions spread their offense around well, as five different players attempted shots on goal in the match including Taylor Woods, Melissa Ross, Chloe Finney, Taylor Jenkins and Abigail Morales.

Despite the loss, FHU keeper Cassandra Tymchen played solid in goal, as she allowed just one goal in the match while saving five of the six shots she faced.

With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 2-5-3 on the season and 2-2-2 in conference play. With the victory, Harris Stowe evens up their season record and move to 6-6 on the season and 3-3 in  AMC play.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions continue their road schedule on Saturday, October 8, as they make the trip to Columbia, Mo. to take on Columbia (Mo.) College for the American Midwest Conference Game of the Week. Match time is slated for 1:30 PM.
