ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The American Midwest Conference (AMC) recently announced their Player of the Week awards for the week ending October 9 and among those selected was FHU runner Tyler Alverson for the Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week.

Alverson, a freshman from Lebanon, Tenn., racked up a top 10 finish this past weekend at the Fast Cat's Classic in Owensboro, Ky. by setting a new personal and school record with a time of 26:29. Alverson finished eighth in the 8K race among 134 runners in the field.

To say that Alverson has had a hot start to the 2016 season would be an understatement, as this week's top 10 finish comes on the heels of a first place individual finish at the Freed-Speed Open, held on FHU's campus September 17.

Derrick Spradlin, head coach for the FHU cross country teams, said Alverson has made an immediate impact since joining the team this Fall.

"This award is the result of a lot of hard work and miles that Tyler has put in," Spradlin said. "He and the other freshmen have come in and embraced FHU from day one and our returning runners have done a great job of making them feel they belong on the team. I am very proud of what Tyler and the entire men's team has been able to do so far this season."

The Runner of the Week nod for Alverson marks the first of the season for the FHU Lion cross country team. For more information on the weekly awards, visit the American Midwest Conference website at
