Lady Lions drop two in Cumberland Tri-Match

LEBANON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team suffered two losses Tuesday night, as they fell 3-0 to Asbury (Ky.) University followed by a 3-0 loss to Cumberland University in the Cumberland Tri-Match in Lebanon, Tenn.

Despite the loss, the Lady Lions (7-11) held their own in the opening match against Asbury University (6-11), as they kept pace with the Eagles in each of the three sets (25-18, 25-16, 25-22).

Daymari Brito led the Lady Lions on the attack with eight kills while Lindsey Gordon distributed the ball well with 20 assists in the match. FHU was also able to find success at the service line as Sara Denton, Brito, and Gordon each contributed a service ace in the match.

The second match of the night against tournament host Cumberland University (16-10) found the Lady Lions trailing early in each of the three sets, which led to an eventual loss in straight-sets (25-14, 25-20, 25-14).

Freshman Ashton Webb led FHU on the attack with eight kills while Gordon continued her strong play with 22 assists in the match. Despite the loss,  the Lady Lions continued to have success at the service line, as Daymari Brito, Cynthia Beene and Bailey Brown each contributed a service ace in the match.

With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 7-11 on the season.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions return home on Friday, October 21, as they host Williams Baptist (Ark.) College for a 6:00 PM match-up at the Brewer Sports Center.
