WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion soccer team has made a habit lately of taking games into overtime, but Tuesday it did not work in their favor, as they were defeated by Williams Baptist College 2-1 in double overtime.

Tuesday's contest marks the fourth match-up this season for the Lady Lions that has resulted in an overtime finish.

Things started out well for the Lady Lions, as Sophomore Avis Van Kampen was able to put FHU on the board in the 16 minute of play by finding the back of the net off an assist by Taylor Woods.

FHU (2-8-3, 2-5-2 AMC) continued to pace the offensive attack in the match, as they attempted 14 shots and eight shots on goal compared to Williams Baptist (5-6-1, 4-4-1 AMC) who attempted nine shots and six shots on goal.

It might have taken the entire match for the Eagles to score, but they made it count, as Dora Lwamba was able to connect on a header in the 86th minute off an assist by Maddie Mead to even things up at one apiece and send the match to overtime.

The first overtime period was a defensive struggle, as neither team attempted a shot. However, the second overtime period would be filled with action, as WBC midfielder Maddie Mead would continue to give the Lady Lions fits, this time with an assist to Maria Ramirez for the win.

With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 2-8-3 on the season and 2-5-2 in conference play. With the win, the Eagles improve to 5-6-1 on the season and 4-4-1 in AMC play.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions continue their road schedule on Saturday, October 22, as they travel to St. Louis, Mo. to face St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Match time is slated for 2:00 PM.
