COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion volleyball team battled the entire way, but in the end Columbia College was too much to handle, as the Cougars combined for 50 kills in a straight-sets win over the Lady Lions Thursday in Columbia, Mo.

Despite the loss, the Lady Lions received solid contribution on the attack by Beth Maples, who ended the night with six kills. Freshman Ashton Webb also played strong on the attack with six kills of her own while Lindsey Gordon dished out 21 assists in the loss. Bailey Brown countered Columbia's attack with eight digs in the match.

Eirini Chatziestratiadou paced the attack for Columbia College with 13 kills while Caroline Clifford followed close behind with 12 kills of her own. Sashiko Heredia dished out 41 assists in the match for Columbia while also contributing two service aces in the win.

With the loss, the Lady Lions fall to 10-14 on the season and 5-6 in conference play. Columbia College improves to 23-11 on the season with the win.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions will not get much of a break following Thursday's match-up, as they continue their road schedule Friday for a 5:00 PM match-up at Stephens College. FHU will need a win against the Stars Friday to remain among the top eight teams in the American Midwest Conference and secure a spot in the AMC Conference Tournament.
