Alverson qualifies for Nationals with third place finish at AMC Championship

O'FALLON, Ill. - Friday was a big day for Lion Cross Country runner Tyler Alverson, as he finished third overall among 89 runners in the field at the AMC Cross Country Championship, held in O'Fallon, Ill.

With the third place finish in the event, the freshman from Lebanon, Tenn. automatically qualifies for the NAIA Cross Country Nationals, set to take place November 19 at the North Farm Cross Country course in Elsah, Ill.

Alverson set a new personal record with the third place finish in Friday's event, as his 8K time of 26:12 was a mere two seconds behind Park University's Christian Skinner who finished in second place with a time of 26:10.

Alverson kept pace throughout the entire event and even led the race at one point before Columbia's Malik Holman was able take home the top spot in the event with a time of 26:01.

As a team, the Lions finished sixth out of 10 participating teams in the event. Dillon Tucker was the second FHU runner to cross the finish line, as he recorded a 26th place finish with a time of 28:43. Adam Dunlap rounded out the top three for the Lions, finishing 31st with a time of 29:09.
