JACKSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion basketball team had a lot to be thankful for Friday following a solid 65-56 victory over No. 16 Montana State University-Northern at the Jackson Rotary Classic in Jackson, Tenn.

Taleeah Cross continued to shine for FHU (6-0, 2-0 AMC) in the win, as she gave Montana Northern fits the entire night, dropping a season-high 29 points and dishing out four assists in the victory.

Kim Mallory also played well on the offensive end, as she put up 17 points and pulled down five rebounds while Sandrea Sylman contributed 14 points of her own on a 6-for-11 shooting night from the field.

The Lady Lions shot 39 percent from the field in the game and 30 percent from behind the arc compared to Montana State Northern (6-1) who shot just 29 percent from the field and 26 percent from three-point range.

Jacy Thompson led the Skylights on the offensive end with 18 points while Natalee Faupel also reached double digits with 10 points in the loss.

The Lady Lions came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter, as they jumped out to an early 14 point advantage with 1:00 remaining in the opening stanza, as Montana State Northern mustered just three points in the opening nine minutes of play. The Skylights; however, would rattle off five unanswered points in the final minute of the first quarter to close the gap to nine at the 17-8 mark.

Montana State Northern would tighten things up in the second quarter, despite the Lady Lions leading by as many as 13 in the second stanza. Although FHU would never trail in the quarter, the Skylights out-shot the Lady Lions 19-12 to close the gap to one at the 29-27 mark entering the break.

Montana State Northern would take their first lead in the game to open the third quarter, as Cydney Auzene poured in a three point basket to put the Skylights up 30-29. Things would remain tight the remainder of the way, as the third quarter saw two ties and two lead changes before the Lady Lions were able to take a slight 41-40 lead into the final quarter of play.

The Lady Lions would gain some separation to open the fourth quarter, as they out-shot the Skylights 14-3 in the opening five minutes to take a comfortable 55-43 lead. Montana State Northern would attempt a late comeback, as they out-shot the Lady Lions 6-4 in the final minutes, but it would not be enough, as FHU was able to secure the 65-56 win.

With the win, the Lady Lions improve to 6-0 on the season. Montana State Northern drops their first game of the season and falls to 6-1 with the loss.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions begin Day 2 of the Jackson Rotary Classic Saturday, as they face No. 1 Mid-America Nazarene (Kan.) University. Tip off is set for 9:00 PM at the Oman Arena in Jackson, Tenn.
