LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball nearly completed the sweep of No. 5 Georgia Gwinnett Sunday, but came up just short as they fell 7-5 to the Grizzlies on the road in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Despite Sunday's loss, the Lions (2-1) recorded two wins over Georgia Gwinnett with 7-6 wins on Friday and Saturday to hold a 2-1 edge in the series with the Grizzlies.

FHU jumped out to an early lead with runs in the first and second innings, but Georgia Gwinnett would answer with runs in the second and fourth innings to go along with four runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-5 lead mid-way through the game.

The Lions would struggle to put any runs on the board in the final three innings, as the Grizzlies pulled out the 7-5 win. Despite the loss, Kyle Douglas pitched well, as he worked five innings and struck out five while giving up just eight hits. Griffin Siebert continued his strong play at the plate, as he went 2-for-4 on the day and pounded a double and two RBI in the loss.

Bryce Lester also had a solid day at the plate, as he went 2-for-3 in the match-up while Chase Young went 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI to keep the Lions in in down the stretch.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 2-1 on the season.

UP NEXT: The Lions will not get much of a break following the weekend series, as they will be right back at it on Tuesday, February 7th, as they make the trip to Pulaski, Tenn. to take on Martin Methodist College. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
