Lions fall to Williams Baptist 93-89 on the road

WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball started strong, but could not hold on Thursday night, as a strong second half by Williams Baptist sent the Lions home with their eighth loss of the season in Walnut Ridge, Ark.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 16-7 on the season and 11-4 in conference play. Williams Baptist moves to 8-14 on the season and 4-12 in AMC play with the win.

The Lions (16-8, 11-5 AMC) shot 48 percent from the field in the game compared to Williams Baptist (8-14, 4-12 AMC), who shot 49 percent from the field and 48 percent from behind the arc.

Despite the loss, the Lions received solid contribution from Spencer Garner who led FHU on the offensive end with 19 points after shooting 7-for-11 from the field.

Three other players reached double digits for the Lions including Fitzgerald Hopkins who ended the night with 14 points while Austin Dempsey chipped in 13. Joseph Williams rounded out the scoring for FHU, as he put up 10 points in the loss.

UP NEXT: The Lions return home Saturday, February 11th, as they play host to Central Baptist (Ark.) College at the Brewer Sports Center. The Lady Lions kick things off first at 1:00 PM followed by the men's game at 3:00 PM.
