HENDERSON, Tenn. - The No. 1 Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion basketball team reached their 26th win of the season Tuesday night, as they battled No. 10 ranked Lyon College and came away with a 73-62 victory in the AMC Game of the Week.

Gabrielle Nicholson led the Lady Lions on the attack and had her best game of the season, as she chipped in 23 points on a 4-for-6 shooting night from behind the arc.

Kim Mallory and Taleeah Cross also reached double digits in the match-up, as Mallory put up 16 points despite getting in early foul trouble while Cross chipped in 12 points in the win.

The Lady Lions (26-0, 20-0 AMC) shot an impressive 46 percent from the field and 44 percent from behind the arc compared to Lyon College (21-4, 17-3 AMC), who shot 34 percent from the field and just 29 percent from behind the arc on 6-for-21 shooting.

The game was a battle from the start, as both teams went back and forth on the offensive end in the first quarter, which saw three ties and four lead changes. The Lady Lions would trail by as many as four points at the 9-5 mark with six minutes remaining in the first quarter before responding with a 10-0 run to take a 15-9 lead with three minutes remaining in the opening stanza.

The Scots; however, would respond with some offense of their own, as they out-shot the Lady Lions 11-4 in the final three minutes to take a 20-19 lead.

The Lady Lions would turn things around in the second quarter, as they out-shot the Scots 14-6 to take a 33-26 lead entering the break, courtesy of solid defense and capitalizing on second chance opportunities under the basket. Gabrielle Nicholson led the Lady Lions in first half scoring, as she contributed nine of FHU's 33 points throughout the first two quarters.

The Scots came out on a mission following the halftime break, as they out-shot the Lady Lions 13-8 in the opening four minutes of the third quarter to pull within two points at the 41-39 mark. However, Lyon College would never gain a lead in the quarter, as FHU responded with an 11-0 scoring run to close the quarter and reach their largest lead of the game at the 52-39 mark.

The Lady Lions continued to roll in the final stanza, as they kept a near double digit lead for the remainder of the game on their way to a 73-62 victory. With the win, the Lady Lions improve to 26-0 on the season and 20-0 in conference play. Lyon College falls to 21-4 on the season and 17-3 in AMC play with the loss.
