No. 3 Columbia hands Lions 92-72 loss on the road

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball team suffered their 10th loss of the season Thursday night at the hands of No. 3 Columbia College, as the Cougars defeated the Lions 92-72 in Columbia, Mo.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 17-10 on the season and 12-7 in conference play. Columbia College moves to 25-2 on the season and 18-1 in AMC play with the win.

The Lions (17-10, 12-7 AMC) shot 43 percent from the field in the game compared to Columbia College (25-2, 18-1 AMC), who shot an impressive 56 percent from the field and 50 percent from behind the arc.

Despite the loss, the Lions received solid contribution from Spencer Garner who led FHU on the offensive end with 17 points. Marcus Baldwin and Grant Teichmann followed close behind, as each chipped in 13 points in the loss.

The Lions held their own for a majority of the first half, as they trailed Columbia by fewer than five points throughout the first 15 minutes. The Lions would get as close as two points at the 31-29 with 5:16 remaining before Columbia out-shot the Lions 11-1 to close the half with a 42-32 lead.

The Cougars continued to roll in the second half, as they maintained a double digit lead for the remainder of the contest and reached their largest lead of the game at the 84-62 mark 4:41 remaining. The Lions would close the gap to 12 points at the 70-58 mark with 7:40 remaining, but that would be as close as they would get as the Cougars rolled to a 92-72 victory.

UP NEXT: The Lions are back in action on the road Saturday, February 18th, as they make the trip to Fulton, Mo. to take on William Woods University. The Lady Lions kick things off first at 1:00 PM followed by the men's game at 3:00 PM.
