HENDERSON, Tenn - The Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team cruised to their fifth win of the season Friday, as they picked up a 5-2 victory over Roosevelt University at Carnes Field.

Kyle Douglas (1-2) picked up the win after working six full innings and allowing just five hits while striking out seven for his first victory of the season. Jared Humphry provided 2 1/3 innings of relief and did not disappoint, as he struck out two batters, despite getting into trouble in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Beau Caviness would finish things off for the Lions, as he worked 2/3 of an inning and retired two straight batters to pick up his third save of the season.

The Lions received solid contribution from a variety of players including Wes Brooks, who ended the night going 1-for-2 with a homerun and two RBI in the victory. Quinn Frost also found success at the plate, as he went 1-for-2 in the game with a triple.

The Lions (5-4) would get things started in the bottom of the first inning, as Griffin Siebert reached on a walk and later scored off a fielder's choice by Aden Campbell to put FHU up 1-0 early on.  Wes Brooks would add two more runs for the Lions in the fourth inning, as he pounded out a two-run shot to score himself and Collin McPherson to put the Lions up 3-0.

The Lions continued to pile it on in the fifth inning, as one more run crossed the plate. Aden Campbell started the inning for the Lions with a double to the right field wall. Quinn Frost would pinch run for Campbell and score later in the inning off a single by Darcy Moore to put FHU up 4-0. Moore would also come up big in the sixth inning, as he singled down the third base line to score Bryce Lester and put FHU up 5-0.

Roosevelt University (2-1) would rally in the bottom of the ninth inning, as Logan Fleener and Matt Kozlack would both cross the plate. Fleener would open the drive with a triple down the left field line and would later score off a single by Kozlak.

Kozlack would also cross the plate in the inning as Colten Trager doubled down the left field line to close the gap to three at the 5-2 mark. Beau Caviness; however, would stop the bleeding for the Lions, as he retired two straight batters with a flyout and a strikeout to secure the 5-2 win for the Lions.

With the win, the Lions move to 5-4 on the season. Roosevelt University falls to 2-1 on the season with the loss.

UP NEXT: The Lions are back in action Saturday, as they face Central Methodist University beginning at 11:30 AM followed by another match-up with Roosevelt University at 4:30 PM at Carnes Field.
