HENDERSON, Tenn, - The Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team opened their conference schedule on a bright note, as they held off a late charge from Hannibal-LaGrange to secure the 10-8 victory Friday night at Carnes Field.

Brandon Guske (4-0) picked up the win, as he worked seven innings and allowed just four hits while striking out five in the process. Jared Humphry (1-0) picked up the save after working 1 1/3 innings and striking out one to secure the win.

Aden Campbell led the Lions at the plate, as he went 2-for-4 on the night, which included two hits and three RBI. Chase Young also found success at the plate, as he went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the win.

Hannibal-LaGrange (2-7) struck first in the game in the top of the first inning, as Seth Brown connected on a solo home-run over the right field fence to put the Trojans up 1-0. Guske; however, would get out of the inning without any further damage, as he struck out two in the inning.

It would not take long for the Lions (9-4) to get back in the game, as they pushed two across in the bottom of the first inning. Griffin Siebert got the inning started for FHU, as he reached after being hit by a pitch and scoring off a base hit by Aden Campbell. Chase Young would also cross the plate in the inning following a single by Houston Looser to put the Lions up 2-1.

The Lions opened the game up in the bottom of the fifth inning, as seven runs crossed the plate. Bryce Lester started the inning with a double down the right field line and later scored off a single by Young. Siebert and Young would score later in the inning off a single to left field by Campbell to put FHU up 5-1.

Larkey Dotson, pinch running for Campbell, and Looser would also score in the inning after the Trojans issued a walk with the bases load to put the Lions up 7-1. Quinn Frost and Parks Flowers also crossed the plate in the inning to put the Lions up 9-1.

Hannibal-LaGrange; however, would make things interesting in the top half of the eighth inning, as six runs crossed the plate to close the gap to two runs at the 9-7 mark. The Lions used a slew of relievers in the inning, as Jordan Goff allowed four earned runs while Collin Davis allowed two runs. The Lions; however, would get out of the inning, as Jared Humphry entered the game with two outs and struck out the only batter he faced to keep the Lions in front.

The Lions added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning and it would prove valuable, as the Trojans came back in the top of the ninth and capitalized on one run of their own. Jared Humphry; however, would take care of things from there, as he retired the Trojans in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 10-8 victory for the Lions.

With the win, the Lions move to 9-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. Hannibal-LaGrange falls to 2-7 on the season and 0-1 in AMC play with the loss.
