HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team came up just short Tuesday afternoon in a high scoring affair at No. 6 Lindsey Wilson College, as the Blue Raiders handed the Lions a 9-6 loss.

Ricky Winfield (2-3) picked up the win for the Blue Raiders after working 3 and 1/3 innings and striking out five batters while allowing just one hit. Jared Humphry (1-1) suffered the loss for the Lions after working 1 and 2/3 innings and giving up four earned runs while striking out two.

Despite the loss, the Lions received solid contribution from Chase Young, who led the Lions at the plate, ending the day going 1-for-4 with four RBI and a walk to keep the Lions in the game down the stretch. Darcy Moore continued his strong play at the plate, as he went 2-for-3 and pounded out an RBI of his own.

Lindsey Wilson (8-7) got things started early with a three-run first inning that started with a two-run blast by Jayden Jackson to put the Blue Raiders up 2-0. Ben Giland also crossed the plate in the inning off a single to right field by Jan Carlos to give LWC and early 3-0 lead.

The Lions kept the Blue Raiders in check following the three runs in the first inning; however, LWC fired back in the bottom half of the sixth inning, where five runs crossed the plate, courtesy of a hitting frenzy by the heart of the Lindsey Wilson order.

Freed-Hardeman (11-5) would put together some offense of their own to keep things within reach, as a one-run fifth inning followed by a five-run sixth inning would give the Lions a chance down the stretch. However, the Lions would be unable to respond to the Blue Raiders offense in the bottom of the sixth inning, as they came up just short in the 9-6 loss.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 11-5 on the season. Lindsey Wilson College improves to 8-7 on the season with the win.

UP NEXT: The Lions resume conference play this weekend on the road, as they make the trip to Fulton, Mo. to take on the Owls of William Woods University. The weekend starts on Friday with a double-header beginning at 1:00 PM followed by a single 9-inning game on Saturday scheduled for 12:00 PM.
