FULTON, Mo. - Yesterday, Riley Echols led the Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team to a victory over William Woods by striking out 13. Today, the tables turned, as William Woods starting pitcher Ryan Phillips fanned 13 batters of his own to lead the Owls to a series win over the Lions with an 8-2 victory in Fulton, Mo.

Despite the loss, the Lions (12-7, 4-2 AMC) received solid contribution from Griffin Siebert, who went 2-for-4 on the day, which included a two-run home-run in the ninth inning to keep the Owls from completing the shutout. Freshman Bryce Lester also had a solid day at the plate, as he went 3-for-3 with a double in the loss.

The Lions scattered nine hits in the game, but could not move runners around the base paths, as they stranded 13 runners in the match-up. Kyle Douglas (2-3) suffered the loss after working 2/3 of an inning and allowing two earned runs, two hits and issuing two walks in the contest.

Ryan Phillips (3-2) earned his third win of the year for the Owls (7-13, 3-3 AMC), as he worked seven scoreless innings and allowed just six hits and a walk while striking out 13. Tyler Cunningham led the Owls at the plate, as he went 1-for-3 on the day with a double and three RBI in the win.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 12-7 on the season and 4-2 in conference play. William Woods improves to 7-13 on the season and 3-3 in AMC play with the win.

UP NEXT: The Lions are back in action at home Monday, March 6th, as they host Lane College for a 4:00 PM match-up at Carnes Field.
