GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team broke through Saturday for their first win of the season, as they picked up a 2-1 win over College of Coastal Georgia in the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, Ala.

The Lady Lions (1-2) struck first in the game, as they pushed one run across in the top of the first inning. College of Coastal Georgia; however, would get one run of their own in the bottom of the second inning to even things up, courtesy of an RBI single by Mariner leadoff hitter Savannah Money, who gave Makenzie Prince (1-1) fits all day, as she was 3-for-4 on the afternoon.

However, unlike yesterday which saw the Lady Lions come out on the losing end of a tight match-up, they wouldn't let it happen again. Annaka Baxter would be the hero of the day for FHU, as she blasted a solo home-run in the fourth inning to give the Lady Lions a 2-1 lead.

The Mariners (13-6) were not able to score the rest of the way against Prince, who finished the game allowing just one run on seven hits while recording 10 strikeouts in the victory.

Freshman Chloe Boulineau suffered the loss for Coastal Georgia, as she allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out three.

With the win, the Lady Lions record their first victory of the season and move to 1-2. College of Coastal Georgia falls to 13-6 on the season with the loss.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions resume play in the Gulf Coast Invitational Sunday, as they face Middle Georgia State College for a 9:00 AM match-up in the Bronze Bracket of the Invitational.
