HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team brought their winning streak to four games Sunday, as they completed a sweep of No. 23 Park University with a 6-0 shutout in the opening game followed by a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.

"It was a great weekend for our team as we were able to secure four wins over top quality conference opponents," said Todd Humphry, head coach for the Lady Lion softball team. "Our pitching is getting it done for us and we just need to provide some run support. I feel our hitting has continued to improve as we have seen more pitches. I am really proud of the way our girls played this weekend."

Makenzie Prince (3-1) picked up the win in the opening game after working a complete game and allowing just three hits while striking out four. The bats also came alive for the Lady Lions, as they pounded out 12 hits in the game, led by Caitlyn Carter who went a perfect 3-for-3 on the day.

Annaka Baxter and Lilly Bombard also had a solid day at the plate, as Baxter went 2-for-4 in the opening game with a double while Bombard went 1-for-2 with a double and a RBI. Kristen Hunsicker rounded out the hitting for the Lady Lions, as she contributed two of FHU's four RBI's in the win.

The Lady Lions (7-4, 5-1 AMC) did a majority of their damage right out of the gate, as they pushed across four runs in the bottom of the first inning to gain some separation. Caitlyn Carter, Jenna Graham, Annaka Baxter and Hannah Wright would all cross the plate in the inning to provide the Lady Lions with some separation.

Prince did her job in the circle for the remainder of the game, as Park University (3-13, 0-4 AMC) mustered just three hits in the game while the Lady Lions added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to complete the shutout with a 6-0 victory.

Things were a little tougher in the nightcap, but as they have done all season long, the Lady Lions found a way to win with a 4-3 victory. Mallory Spurlock (4-1) picked up the win in the nightcap, as she put in five innings of work and allowed just four hits while striking out two. Makenzie Prince recorded the save in the match-up, as she provided two solid innings of relief and allowed just four hits while striking out one.

The Lady Lions once again had no trouble finding their rhythm at the plate, as they pounded out 12 hits, led by Caitlyn Carter who went 3-for-4 on the day with a RBI in the win. Makenzie Prince and Annaka Baxter also found their stride at the plate, as they each went 2-for-3 on the day with a pair of RBI to round out the hitting for the Lady Lions.

Once again the Lady Lions did a majority of their damage in one inning to provide some separation, as they used a six-hit four-run third inning to take a 4-0 lead in the game. Caitlyn Carter got the scoring drive started with a triple to deep right field to score Abbi Gooch and give the Lady Lions some fire power.

Carter would also cross the plate later in the inning following a single to right field by Jenna Graham to put FHU up 2-0.  A double by Annaka Baxter in the next at bat would score Graham to put the Lady Lions up 3-0 while a single by Hannah Wright would score Makenzie Prince to complete the scoring drive and give FHU a 4-0 lead.

The Pirates would rally late in the game, as they pushed two runs across in the top part of the fourth inning and another run in the sixth inning, but it would not be enough, as the Lady Lions came away with the 4-3 victory to complete the weekend sweep.

With the sweep, the Lady Lions improve to 7-4 on the season and 5-1 in conference play. The Pirates fall to 3-13 on the season and 0-4 in AMC play with the series loss.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions are back in action Monday, March 20th, as they host Central Baptist College for a double-header at Morgan Stadium. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
