HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team dropped a heartbreaker Thursday night to Lyon College, as they suffered the 4-3 loss, despite stellar pitching from the Lions.

Brandon Guske (4-5) suffered the loss, despite pitching one of the best games of his career, where he struck out an impressive 17 batters while allowing just four hits. Reese Chovanac picked up the win for Lyon College after working 5 1/3 innings of relief and allowing just two hits while striking out two.

The Lions (16-13, 5-8 AMC) would get the scoring drive started in the top of the second inning, as Aden Campbell singled to left field followed by a walk by Darcy Moore to put two runners on.

Joe Leatherwood would take care of the runners from there, as he hit a blooper to shallow right field to score Campbell and Moore to give FHU the 2-0 lead. Collin Baber would score the third run in the inning to put the Lions up 3-0 after courtesy running for Leatherwood and scoring off a double to deep right field by Houston Looser.

However, Lyon College (20-10, 10-2 AMC) would not go down without a fight, as they responded with one run of their own in the bottom of the third inning to shrink the lead to two runs at the 3-1 mark, as Andrew Sauceda reached on a walk and scored later in the inning off a couple of passed balls behind the plate.

The Scots; however, would not be done, as they pounded out their first four hits of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning capped off by an RBI double by Keegan Floyd to score three runs and put Lyon College in front with a 4-3 lead, which would be just enough to hand FHU the loss.

With the loss, the Lions fall to 16-13 on the season and 5-8 in conference play. Lyon College improves to 20-10 on the seaosn and 10-2 in AMC play with the win.

UP NEXT: The Lions are back in action Friday, as they continue their series with Lyon College with a double header scheduled for 2:00 PM at Carnes Field.
