BELLEVILLE, Ill. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team took one of two from Lindenwood-Belleville Thursday, as they picked up a 6-1 win in the opening game before falling 8-0 in the nightcap.

Makenzie Prince (5-2) picked up the win in the opening game after working a complete game and allowing just five hits while striking out two.

Kaylyn Graham and Lilly Bombard led the Lady Lions at the plate in the opening game, as each pounded out a homerun to aid FHU in pulling away for good. Annaka Baxter was also consistent at the plate, as she contributed three of the five hits for the Lady Lions in the win.

The Lady Lions got their scoring drive started early in the opening game, as three runs crossed the plate in the top of the first inning to create some separation. Makenzie Prince crossed the plate first in the inning after reaching on a walk and scoring off an error by the Lynx defense. Kaylyn Graham would add two more runs in the inning following a two-run blast over the right field fence to put FHU up 3-0.

FHU continued to find success at the plate in the subsequent innings, as they plated one run each in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 6-1 lead, which proved to be all they needed to secure the win.

However, despite the Lady Lions being locked in at the plate in the opening game, they were unable to transfer the momentum into the nightcap, as Lindenwood-Belleville pitcher Taylor Winn limited FHU to just one hit while striking out nine.

Lindenwood-Belleville (28-11, 12-4 AMC), on the other hand, had no trouble finding their rhythm in the nightcap, as they pounded out eight hits and plated eight runs to shutout the Lady Lions and even up the series.

With the split, the Lady Lions move to 12-7 on the season and 10-2 in conference play. The Lynx move to 28-11 on the season and 12-4 in AMC play.

UP NEXT: The Lady Lions are back in action Friday, April 7th, as they host a double header with Harris Stowe State University at Morgan Stadium. First pitch is set for 2:00 PM.
