Lavelle and Huber Recognized in Post-Season Golf Honors

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Following the Men's American Midwest Conference (AMC) Tournament on Tuesday, the AMC revealed its All-Conference teams for the 2017 men's golf season and among those selected from FHU were Easton Lavelle and Hudson Huber. Lavelle was named a First-Team All Conference recipient while Huber was named an Honorable-Mention selection. 

Lavelle, a junior from Munford, Tenn., led the Lions a majority of the season, as he finished ahead of the pack in two of the four competitions played in the Spring, highlighted by a 3-over 75 at the Faulkner Spring Invite, where he earned All-Tournament accolades.

Huber, a junior from Newnan, Ga. was named an Honorable Mention selection after a solid Spring season that was highlighted by a fourth place finish at the Martin Methodist Spring Invite, where he posted rounds of 72-71-143.

William Woods University boasted the AMC Men’s Golf Player of the Year in Billy McKenzie, while Missouri Baptist University’s Andrew Grant claimed Newcomer of the Year honors, and Columbia College’s Gage Brauns was named the AMC Freshman of the Year.

McKenzie entered the AMC Championship with the top scoring average of any AMC golfer at 71.25 strokes per round. The senior from Portsmouth, England holds the fourth best scoring average in the NAIA, and he has claimed four wins and seven top-5 finishes in nine starts this season. He shot a new season best round of 66 on Monday in the second round of the AMC Championship, and he is the only golfer in the AMC whose average score is below par.

Grant slotted in as the Conference’s best newcomer by scoring average, shooting an average round of 74.82 strokes for the Spartans this year. He appeared in seven tournaments for MBU in the regular season, playing a total of 17 rounds and claiming four top-10 finishes.

Brauns earned Freshman of the Year honors, posting an average score of 79.06 per round. Brauns started in seven events for the Cougars, playing 16 total rounds in the regular season. He finished in the top-20 three times, and his best round as a freshman was a 74.
