HENDERSON, Tenn. - All season long, the Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team has found a way to win the big games. Friday was no exception, as the Lady Lions used solid pitching to outlast William Woods with a pair of 2-0 wins in a pitcher's dual match-up.

Makenzie Prince (9-4) had one of her best outings of the year in the opener, as she limited William Woods to just four hits while striking out an impressive eight batters. Prince was also consistent in the circle, as she issued no walks in her seven innings of work.

The Lady Lions (23-10) were also held to just four hits in the match-up, but they were able to make the most of the few opportunities they had, as a run in the second inning and another in the fifth would be just enough to secure the shutout win over the Owls (27-22).

Kristen Hunsicker contributed the lone RBI in the game after going 1-for-2 on the day while Makenzie Prince led the Lady Lions at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double and one scored run.

Makenzie Prince got the scoring drive started for the Lady Lions in the bottom of the second , as she opened the inning with a double to deep right field. Kristen Hunsicker would take care of things from there, as she connected on an RBI single to right field to score Prince and put FHU on the board with a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Lions added one insurance run to their total in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Morgan Warren reached base after being hit by a pitch and scored later in the inning by stealing home. The two-run cushion would be all the Lady Lions needed, as Prince shut down the Owls for the remainder of the game, as FHU secured the 2-0 shutout.

Two runs was the story of the game for the Lady Lions, as they were able to once again secure the 2-0 win in the nightcap, courtesy of solid pitching by FHU. Mallory Spurlock (10-3) picked up her tenth win of the season in the nightcap, as she worked a complete game and allowed just six hits while striking out seven.

Kaylyn Graham led the Lady Lions at the plate in the nightcap, as she went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI while Abbi Gooch went 1-for-4 with an RBI of her own. The Lady Lions found their stride in the fifth and sixth innings, as they pushed one run across in each inning to once again take a 2-0 lead in the match-up.

Abbi Gooch got things started for the Lady Lions in the fifth inning, as she reached on a wild throw by WWU infielder Amanda Bouchey and scored later in the inning following an RBI single by Kaylyn Graham to put FHU up 1-0.

FHU would add an insurance run to their total in the seventh inning to give Spurlock some breathing room in the bottom half of the inning. Kristen Hunsicker got the inning started for the Lady Lions after reaching on a fielder's choice and scoring later in the inning following an RBI single by Abbi Gooch to give FHU the 2-0, which would be just enough to secure the sweep.

With the sweep, the Lady Lions improve to 23-10 on the season and advance to the American Midwest Conference semifinal round to be held at Morgan Stadium beginning Thursday, May 4th. With the double header loss, William Woods ends their season with a record of 27-22.
