ST. LOUIS, Mo – The American Midwest Conference will contest it's 2017 Baseball Championship, and on Saturday, the Conference released the AMC Championship Bracket. The eight-team double-elimination tournament will be contested at Freed-Hardeman University's Carnes Field, with the 15 games taking place Wednesday May 3 through Saturday May 6.

The first three days of the Championship will feature four games each day, and on day one, there will be a ceremony between games three and four to present the 2017 AMC All-Conference Awards.

The tournament will get underway at 10 a.m. on Wednesday with the top-seeded Missouri Baptist University Spartans (35-12/24-6 AMC) battling the host Freed-Hardeman Lions (30-21/13-15 AMC). The Spartans won a share of their 19th AMC regular season title since 1994, and they won their last 13 AMC contests of the season, beginning with a sweep of the Lions at Carnes Field. The Lions won six of their first eight AMC games in the month of April to climb back into the AMC Championship picture, hanging on in the season's final weekend to take the final spot in the Championship.

The second seed goes to the Columbia College Cougars (34-15/24-6 AMC) who claimed a share of the AMC regular season crown in their first season of competition in 35 years. Columbia will battle the Lynx of Lindenwood University-Belleville (29-23/15-14 AMC) who battled their way back to secure a postseason berth despite starting the AMC schedule 1-7.

The 4 p.m. game on Wednesday will feature the fourth and fifth seeds, the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets (30-18/15-11 AMC) and the William Woods University Owls (25-28/16-13 AMC) respectively. The Hornets won the season series with the Owls 2-1 on their way to just their second 30-win season in the last 75 years, with the other coming in 2005. The Owls won five straight series in AMC play from March 3 through April 1.

Following the awards presentation, the final game of the day will feature the third-seeded Lyon College Scots (30-22/17-12 AMC) and the number six seed Central Baptist College Mustangs (29-22/15-13 AMC). The Mustangs are the defending AMC Champions, having swept their way through the 2016 bracket, but they had to battle to simply make the field in 2017. The Mustangs swept Park University in their second to last series of the season to move into playoff position, and a sweep of Williams Baptist College on the season's final weekend secured their place. The Scots stumbled to the finish, losing their last eight AMC contests.

The Championship will determine both of the AMC's automatic bids to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round, with the last two teams standing taking the automatic berths. All games of the tournament will be nine innings in length, and each must be played to its conclusion before the next game will begin. Admission will be $5 per day, and video of all games will be streamed free of charge on the AMC Sports Network powered by Stretch Internet. Full coverage of the Championship is available on the official home of the Baseball Championship here.
