HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion baseball team picked up an impressive win Wednesday in the opening round of the American Midwest Conference tournament, as they took down No. 1 seed Missouri Baptist University in ten innings.

Brandon Guske (6-8) pitched a gem after working all ten innings of the match-up and allowing just seven hits and three earned runs while striking out six. Nick Vichio suffered the loss for Missouri Baptist after working two innings of relief and giving up three hits and two earned runs while striking out three.

Aden Campbell led the Lions at the plate, as he went 1-for-3 on the day, including a game-winning 2-RBI single in the top of the tenth inning to secure the win for FHU. Collin McPherson also had a solid day at the plate, as he went 2-for-5 on the day with a homerun and an RBI while Griffin Siebert went 2-for-4.

The Lions (31-21) got things started first in the top of the second inning, as Collin McPherson crossed the plate, courtesy of a double to deep left field by Wes Brooks to put FHU up 1-0.

Missouri Baptist (37-13); however, answered right back in the bottom half of the second inning, as they pushed across two runs to take a 2-1 lead in the contest. Austin Rieman crossed the plate first for the Spartans following a fielder's choice ground ball by Angel Cruz to even things up at one apiece. Miles Fore would give the Spartans their first lead of the game after connecting on an RBI single to left field to score John Hagan and give MBU a 2-1 lead.

The Lions; however, would not go down without a fight, as Collin McPherson evened things back up at two apiece following a solo homerun in the top of the fourth inning to keep things tight.

The Spartans; however, regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning following a pair of hits by the Spartans. Drew Kitson got the inning started for MBU with a double to deep left field and crossed the plate later in the inning following an RBI single by John Hagan to give the Spartans a 3-2 lead.

The Lions would respond with a run of their own in the top part of the eighth inning, as Griffin Siebert crossed the plate after reaching on a fielder's choice and scoring on a sacrifice fly by Aden Campbell to even things up at three apiece.

As was the case earlier in the season in FHU's series with Missouri Baptist, the game would once again go down to the wire as both teams could not push any runs across in nine innings of play to force extra innings.

However, the Lions came ready to battle in the extra session, as Bryce Lester and Griffin Siebert opened the inning with back-to-back base hits to give FHU life. Aden Campbell would take care of things from there, as he connected on an RBI single through the middle to score Lester and Siebert and give FHU a 5-3 lead, which would be all they needed to secure the win.

With the win, the Lions move to 31-21 on the season and advance to play the winner of William Woods University and Harris Stowe State University on Friday at 4:00 PM. With the loss, Missouri Baptist falls to 37-13 on the season and will play the loser of the William Woods and Harris Stowe game on Friday at 10:00 AM.
