HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion basketball team added another player to its 2017-18 recruiting class with the recent signing of Janae Strode of Las Vegas, Nev.

Strode, a sophomore, transfers to FHU from Dawson Community College in Glendive, Mont., where she was an All-Region 13 NJCAA performer. Throughout her time with the Buccaneers, she averaged 13 points, 5.5 rebounds, three steals and shot 48 percent from the field.

She recorded two double-doubles in points and rebounds and had single game highs of 24 points, 12 rebounds and nine steals. Strode also had a career high of 34 points in a single game.

"Janae states that she ‘loves’ to play defense; a quality appreciated greatly by most coaches," said Dale Neal, head coach for the Lady Lion basketball program. "She has used her great court awareness to make herself a very good help-side defender. Her anticipation allows her to get in the passing lanes and steal a lot of passes. She was the leader in steals on her team and one of the best in the country in the NJCAA. Janae is very athletic and attacks the basket well with a great finish at the rim."

Strode will likely contribute right away for the Lady Lions as a result of her skill set and experience at the community college level. In addition to being smart on the floor, she excels in the classroom carrying a 3.7 GPA.

Strode is the third player to sign with the Lady Lion basketball program for the upcoming season. She joins Alyssa Lemay (Mt. Pleasant High School/ Mt. Pleasant, Tenn.) and Jordan Mays (Marmaduke High School/Marmaduke, Ark.) in the 2017-18 recruiting class for the Lady Lions.
