BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion softball team dropped a heartbreaker Monday in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament, as they suffered a 1-0 loss to Campbellsville University.

Despite suffering the loss in the match-up, Makenzie Prince (10-6) was solid in the circle, as she worked six stellar innings and allowed just five hits while striking out four.

Neely Quint (19-6) picked up the win for Campbellsville, as she worked 4 and 1/3 innings and allowed just four hits while striking out one. Rachel Denkins closed things out in the circle for the Lady Tigers, as she worked 2 and 2/3 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out one.

The Lady Lions (24-13) threatened early in the game, as Annaka Baxter pounded out a triple in the top of the first inning followed by a triple by Caitlyn Carter in the third inning. However, FHU stranded both runners in each of the innings to keep things deadlocked at zero.

Campbellsville (38-13) would get the scoring drive started first in the bottom of the third inning, as Jacqueline Roof pounded out a homerun over the left field fence to put the Lady Tigers up 1-0.

The Lady Tigers threatened again in the bottom of the fourth inning, as Mia Aldridge opened the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a bloop single to the pitcher's mound. However, Prince would take care of things in the circle after striking out Markie Smith to end the inning with no damage.

The Lady Lions; however, would not go down without a fight, as Lilly Bombard got things started in the top part of the fifth inning with a double to the gap in left-center field. Kristen Hunsicker followed in the next at bat with a single to left field to put runners at first and third. However, as was the case the entire day, Campbellsville would get out of the inning without any damage, as the Lady Lions stranded both runners to keep the Lady Tigers on top 1-0 in the match-up.

The Lady Tigers threatened again in the bottom of the fifth inning, as Jacqueline Roof got the inning started with a single to short and put herself in scoring position following a stolen base. However, Prince would once again get out of the inning unharmed, as she retired the next two batters to strand Roof and keep the deficit at 1-0 in favor of the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Lions threatened again in the top of the sixth inning, as Annaka Baxter and Makenzie Prince both reached base. However, FHU would strand their fifth and sixth runners of the day in the inning to keep Campbellsville in front 1-0.

Mallory Spurlock would attempt to get a two-out rally in the top of the seventh inning, as she connected on a double to deep left field., but the rally would be short lived, as Campbellsville shut things down from there to secure the 1-0 victory.

UP NEXT: With the loss, the Lady Lions move to the loser's bracket in the double elimination tournament and will play University of Saint Francis (Ill.) Tuesday at 2:30 PM. With the win, Campbellsville advances to the winner's bracket to play Indiana Wesleyan Tuesday at 12:00 PM.
