HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball program added another player to its 2017-18 recruiting class with the recent signing of Kortland Martin of Humboldt, Tenn.

Martin, a 5-10 combo guard, prepped at Humboldt High School, where he averaged 17 points, three rebounds and four assists per game while shooting 56 percent from the field and 48 percent from behind the arc.

During his senior season with the Vikings, Martin led his team to a 31-2 record, which included district, region and sub-state championships during the 2016-17 season. Throughout his career at Humboldt High School, Martin was an All-District and All-Region performer and capped off his career by leading his team to a Sweet 16 State Tournament appearance.

In addition to his ability on the court, Martin has also excelled in the classroom, earning a 3.8 GPA while participating in multiple extracurricular activities including Track and Field, Science Club, Relay for Life and Upward Sports.

"Kortland will bring exciting energy to our basketball team this upcoming season," said Jim Sanderson, head coach for the Lion basketball program. "He has great speed and quickness that will really benefit our play. Not to mention, he has tremendous dedication to his academics."

Kortland is the son of Kortnea and Chamaka Martin of Humboldt, Tenn. He joins Daniel Meis (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis Nighthawks) in the 2017-18 recruiting class for the Lion basketball program.
