HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball program added two more players to its 2017-18 recruiting class with the recent signing of junior college transfers Shamir Rolle and Jahmeel Watts.

Rolle, a 6-6 junior post player, transfers to FHU from Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tenn., where he had a solid junior college career with the Raiders.

Jim Sanderson, head coach for the Lion basketball program, said Rolle will be a key addition to the 2017-18 roster as a result of his size and presence under the basket.

“We are excited about bringing Shamir to our program,” Sanderson said.  “He will bring a strong physical presence to our interior play and his ability to defend the post and rebound will be a key factor for us during the upcoming season.”

Watts, a 6-5 forward from Charlotte, North Carolina, transfers to FHU from Caldwell Community College in Hudson, North Carolina, where he averaged seven points and five rebounds per game while shooting 47 percent from the field and 37 percent from behind the arc.

“Jahmeel will bring athleticism on both ends of the floor, creating easy baskets in transition and on the offensive boards,” Sanderson said. “I love the high energy play that he will bring to our program the next two years.”

Rolle and Watts are the fifth and sixth players to join the 2017-18 recruiting class for the Lions basketball program. They join Daniel Meis (Memphis, Tenn. /Memphis Nighthawks), Kortland Martin (Humboldt, Tenn. /Humboldt High School), Jonathan Leach (Houston, Texas/Texas Christian) and Latrell Poitier (Freeport, Bahamas/St. Petersburg College) in the signing class for the upcoming season.
