COVINGTON, Tenn. - The Freed Hardeman men's golf team continued their great play Tuesday, as they rolled to a 20 shot victory at the annual Freed-Hardeman University Fall Invitational, held at the Covington Country Club in Covington, Tenn.

The Lions held a nine shot lead over Faulkner University entering the final round and continued to extend that lead as the day progressed. Easton Lavelle continued to lead the Lions, as he shot a low-round two-under par 70. His two day total of 139 (69-70) earned him medalist honors. Hudson Huber's consistent two day total of 144 (72-72) put him in second place.

"Easton played a solid two days of golf," said Chris Hodges, head coach for the FHU Golf teams. "He made some adjustments over the weekend leading up to this tournament and they paid off. Hudson also played two great rounds of golf for our team. He has really been striking the ball well in his last few events. I also can't say enough about freshman Dalton Thomasson coming through with a 72 finish in his final round. He struggled slightly on Monday, but kept a positive attitude and finished with a strong final round."

The Lady Lions also found success in the final round, as they finished the day with a second place team finish. The Lady Lions held a two-shot lead over Faulkner (Ala,.) University entering the final round, but could not hold on, as the Lady Eagles took the first place team finish.

Kayland Boling (81-78-159) and Brittany Myers (79-80-159) led the Lady Lions, as they finished in a tie for third place. Chloe Kraus (78-84-162) finished in fifth place.

"The ladies played a great round on Monday, but Faulkner showed why they are a top women's program," said Hodges. "Our ladies played consistent golf both days and I think this team is going to get stronger as the year progresses."

UP NEXT: The FHU Golf teams have a few weeks off before playing in the Tennessee National Guard Armory Classic, which is slated for October 15-16 in Jackson, Tenn.
