NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lady Lion basketball team was picked to finish second in the TranSouth Conference this season by the conference coaches in the annual pre-season poll that was released on Monday, Oct. 19.
The Lady Lions, who finished second in conference last season with a 13-3 record, were the unanimous second-place pick, receiving 56 total points. Defending conference and national champion Union (Tenn.) University was the consensus pick to repeat as conference champions.
This year also marked the first time that the TranSouth Conference released a pre-season all-conference team as voted on by the coaches. FHU's Jana Cross, Tara Deatheridge, and Meribeth Boehler were among the 10 players on the pre-season all-conference squad. Cross is a three-time all-conference selection.
Freed-Hardeman opens its 2009-10 season on Nov. 6 against Midway (Ky.) College at the LionBacker Classic in Henderson.
