NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lion basketball team was picked to finish second in the TranSouth Conference this season by the conference coaches in the annual pre-season poll that was released on Monday, Oct. 19.

This comes on the heels of Freed-Hardeman's best-ever conference performance in 2008-09, when the Lions went 13-3 in the TranSouth.  FHU then advanced to the conference tournament championship game for the first time before losing to regular season champion Union (Tenn.) University.

Union edged out Freed-Hardeman for the top pre-season spot by three points.  Union received five of eight first place votes while FHU garnered two.  The final first place vote went to Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College, which finished third in the voting.

Senior center Zack Frey was also voted as preseason co-player of the year with Union's Greg Truvillion in the first-ever TranSouth preseason all-conference team voting.  Jesse Moulton was also represented on the 10-player squad.

Freed-Hardeman opens its season on Oct. 30 against Harris-Stowe State (Mo.) College at the LionBacker Classic in Henderson.
