HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman University Lions gained some momentum heading into a key stretch of conference matches with a 5-1 win over St. Catharine College on Saturday evening at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.
The Lions took control of the match from the start and maintained the run of play for the majority of the day. Nolan Beede led off the Lions' scoring with a goal in the 11th minute off a misplay from the St. Catharine goalkeeper Adam Gilcrist. Beede would get his second goal in the 27th minute off a feed from Joshua McReynolds, and Ryan Engineer added to FHU's lead after he drilled a shot home in the 39th minute off a beautiful through ball from Simbarashe Zvaita.
The second half started with both teams staying in the midfield until St. Catharine got on the board in the 58th minute off a goal from Patrick Williams. FHU answered quickly with goals from Simbarashe Zvaita and Pasun Zarif to complete the scoring and make the final 5-1. FHU outshot the visitors 21-9 and 12-9 for shots on goal. Alexandre Girodo was credited with six saves in goal for the Lions.
Freed-Hardeman (9-5) returns to action on Tuesday night with a conference match against Union University at 7:00 PM at the Josh Riley Soccer Complex.
