KANSAS CITY - The Freed-Hardeman University Lady Lion basketball team was in a familiar spot in the 2009-10 NAIA Preseason National Rankings: a place in the top 10.

The Lady Lions came in at No. 6 in the poll released on Monday, Oct. 26.  They finished the 2008-09 season with a No. 6 ranking in the final rankings.

This marks the 26th consecutive national poll in which FHU has appeared in the top 10, dating back to the 2007-08 preseason poll.  It is also the seventh straight time that the Lady Lions have received a top 10 national ranking in the preseason poll.

Last season, Freed-Hardeman went 25-9 and advanced to the NAIA Sweet 16 where it lost a double-overtime thriller to University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), 105-99.

Defending national champion and TranSouth Conference foe Union (Tenn.) University received the No. 1 preseason ranking with nine of 11 first-place votes.  Vanguard (Calif.) University, which won the national title in 2008, took the remaining two first place votes and the No. 2 spot.

Two other TranSouth teams appeared in the top 25: Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University at No. 13 and Bethel (Tenn.) University at No. 20.

The Lady Lions open the season on Friday, Nov. 6, against Midway (Ky.) College at 6:00 PM.
