HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Freed-Hardeman Lions got complete game performances from the two pitchers that tossed back-to-back no-hitters last week as Adam Blackburn and Gage Franklin led the Lions to a sweep of Christian Brothers (Tenn.) University, 3-1 and 3-2, on a windy Tuesday evening at Carnes Field.
Blackburn (2-1) went the distance in game one, allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven. The lone run came in the first inning after Matt Van Slyke singled to lead off the game and came around to score three batters later.
Evan Mansell tied the game in the second with a solo homerun, and Brian Bullard put the Lions ahead for good with a solo shot (6) of his own to lead off the fourth inning. In the top of the frame, Blackburn escaped a first-and-third situation with one out, getting a pop-up and strikeout to end the inning.
In game two, Garrett Ammons hit a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie, and Franklin retired the side in the seventh to close out the sweep.
Franklin (2-1) held CBU to five hits while walking one and striking out six, including the last two batters he faced.
Mansell was the only Lion to collect multiple hits in either game, going 2-for-3 in the first game of the day. Bullard had an RBI in each contest to bring him within six of tying the school's career record in that category.
Freed-Hardeman closes out its long home stand to open the season with a 10-7 record.
